For over 30 years, EarthThings has been part of the Elland community, helping people celebrate life’s happiest moments and offering comfort during the most difficult ones. Over the decades, we’ve created thousands of bouquets, wedding flowers, funeral tributes and floral gifts, but what has always made EarthThings special is the people behind the flowers.
We’re a small, friendly team who genuinely love what we do. Every bouquet is created with care, every customer is welcomed with a smile, and every arrangement is designed as if it were for our own family.
Each of us has our own unique story, but we all share one thing in common – a genuine passion for flowers and for making people smile.
The EarthThings Story
EarthThings has been part of Elland for more than three decades, becoming a place that generations of customers have trusted for beautiful flowers and personal service.
Our own story is woven into the history of the shop.
Lisa first walked through the doors of EarthThings at just 14 years old as the Saturday girl. She quickly fell in love with the shop, the flowers and the friendly atmosphere, never imagining that one day she would own the very business where her floristry journey began.
Not long afterwards, April joined the team at just 17 years old. She and Lisa worked alongside each other for many years, building not only their floristry skills but also a friendship that has stood the test of time.
Life took them in different directions for a while, but sometimes things are just meant to be. Years later, Lisa became the owner of EarthThings, and she and April found themselves back where it all began, once again working side by side doing what they love.
Now, together with Ruth, they’re proud to continue the EarthThings story while keeping the same warm welcome, personal service and love of flowers that customers have known for over 30 years.
Meet Lisa – Owner
For Lisa, owning EarthThings is far more than running a business—it’s coming home.
Starting as the Saturday girl at just 14 years old, she discovered a love of flowers that never left her. The shop became somewhere she always held close to her heart, so becoming its owner years later really was a dream come true.
Lisa is passionate about creating a florist where everyone feels welcome. She loves getting to know customers, hearing their stories and helping them choose flowers that perfectly reflect the occasion, whether it’s celebrating a birthday, planning a wedding, welcoming a new baby or saying goodbye to someone special.
No two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly how she likes it. One day she’s creating wedding flowers, the next she’s designing bespoke bouquets, planning flower workshops, organising flower subscriptions or chatting with customers about ideas for their home or business.
Her favourite part of the job is simple—seeing someone’s face light up when they receive beautiful flowers.
Meet April – Senior Florist
If you’ve visited EarthThings, chances are you’ve already met April.
She first joined the shop when she was just 17 years old and has spent years developing the incredible floristry skills she’s known for today.
Working alongside Lisa again is a lovely full-circle moment, and together they share not only years of experience but also a genuine friendship that customers often notice as soon as they walk through the door.
April has a wonderful eye for colour, texture and design. Whether she’s creating a hand-tied bouquet, an elegant wedding display or a heartfelt funeral tribute, she puts the same care, creativity and attention to detail into every arrangement.
She loves working with seasonal flowers and enjoys bringing customers’ ideas to life. Many of the stunning arrangements you see in the shop and across our social media have been created by April—and yes, she’s also the one often photographed next to flowers that are nearly as tall as she is!
Meet Ruth – Trainee Florist
Ruth’s journey to EarthThings is a little different, and that’s one of the reasons we’re so pleased she’s part of the team.
After a long and successful career as a GP, Ruth decided that retirement was the perfect opportunity to follow a lifelong passion for flowers and creativity.
Rather than slowing down, she chose to begin an exciting new chapter by learning the art of floristry alongside Lisa and April.
Every experienced florist starts somewhere, and Ruth embraces every opportunity to learn. She’s developing her skills every day, building confidence with each bouquet she creates and enjoying every step of her floristry journey.
Her caring nature, attention to detail and love of helping people have transferred perfectly from medicine to floristry, and we’re excited to watch her continue to grow as a florist.
